An old fashioned Tune Up consisted of changing the spark plugs, adjusting the Carburetor, adjusting the Points, checking and replacing the air filter and fuel filter, along with checking and replacing as necessary any of the secondary or primary ignition components (Distributor Cap, Points, Ignition Rotor, Spark Plug Wires, Ignition Coil, Ballast Resistor)
Now
A modern Tune Up consists of changing spark plugs, inspecting ignition related components and replacing as necessary
The idle speed and fuel mixture that needed to be adjusted on a regular basis with Carbureted cars is now completely controlled by the Engine Management System.
